Call 911

In any life-threatening emergency, dial 911 immediately. Dispatch will send the appropriate responders, including the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department and BC Ambulance Service.

For medical advice, contact the BC Nurse Line at 8-1-1.

Fire Safety & Burning

The Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Department (TIVFD) provides fire protection and first responder services. Visit thetisislandfire.ca for current information on burning permits, fire danger ratings and training opportunities.

Always check the fire hazard rating before lighting any fire. When bans are in effect, no open burning or campfires are permitted. Permits are required for all open burning outside of designated campfire times.

Keep firefighting equipment (water hose, shovel) available when burning and never leave a fire unattended.

Emergency Preparedness

Thetis Island’s remoteness means residents should be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours following a major incident such as a storm or earthquake.

  • Maintain an emergency kit with food, water, medications and essentials for each member of your household.
  • Know where to find emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, first aid kit) in your home and workplace.
  • Plan evacuation routes and establish a meeting place for your family.
  • Stay informed via e-Spokes and local radio for updates during an emergency.
