Our Services
Programs managed by TIRRA for residents and visitors alike.
Solid Waste Management
TIRRA operates the island’s recycle yard and manages the solid waste program. The yard accepts household garbage and recyclable materials. Please separate recyclables according to the posted guidelines. A modest tipping fee helps cover hauling and disposal costs.
Hours: Typically open Saturday mornings; check notices or e-Spokes for holiday changes. Fees and accepted items may evolve, so watch for updates on the yard signage.
Location: The recycle yard is located off Long Road near the ferry landing. Please drive slowly and follow attendants’ directions.
Communications
TIRRA coordinates several community communications channels including the e-Spokes email bulletin, the Thetis Island Phone Book, the Visitors’ Guide, and the Welcome Package for new residents. See the Communications page for details on each.
Roads & Transportation
While road maintenance on Thetis is under provincial jurisdiction, TIRRA serves as a liaison between residents and the Ministry of Transportation. If you notice road issues (potholes, drainage problems, signage), report them through TIRRA so we can advocate for repairs.
TIRRA also supports transportation initiatives such as bus shelters and community transit options when available. Stay tuned for updates via e-Spokes and our blog.
St. Margaret's Cemetery
TIRRA is responsible for the maintenance and administration of St. Margaret’s Cemetery. Plots are available for Thetis Island residents and property owners. The cemetery committee oversees landscaping and coordinates burials.
For information about plot availability, fees or regulations, please contact the cemetery coordinator. Donations to support ongoing maintenance are appreciated.
Trails
Thetis Island has an expanding network of trails maintained by volunteers under TIRRA’s guidance. Trails provide safe walking routes and access to natural areas. Trail maps are available at the recycle yard or online. Please respect private property boundaries and tread lightly to protect sensitive habitats.
If you are interested in helping with trail maintenance or joining a trail work party, get in touch with the trails committee.
